The White’s Tree Frog (Litoria caerulea) is a popular tree frog believed to originate from Australia and New Guinea. They are an excellent frog for first-time frog owners as they are simple and easy to care for. White’s tree frogs have an average lifespan of 16 years and are sometimes called Dumpy Tree Frogs due to their “dumpy” appearance.

The adult frogs can grow to 4-5 inches in length. Females are usually longer than males, but it is very difficult to determine sex, even when the frog is a bit older.

White’s Tree Frogs aren’t known for being terribly active. They are content to sit quietly for hours on end, staring out of their habitat at plants, owners, or walls. Mealtime, however, can be different entirely. Your pet white’s tree frog will move quickly and quietly, stalking its prey. After a while, the frogs will also be able to tell when its owner is going for the box of crickets. It will become quite interested in your every move!

The white’s tree frog is great with people, even kids. They love to climb on arms and don’t seem to mind being handled. People handling a dumpy tree frog should always rinse their hands beforehand and wash thoroughly with soap and water after. Dumpy tree frogs do have a toxin in their skin that could sometimes cause some skin irritation if not washed after.
